Five scorching nights, two fragile hearts, one broken rule… Five nights of hot sex will make Callie forget her ex forever, at least that is the promise. Love has brought Theo to his knees before. He knows how to make Callie leave her heartache behind and give voice to her deepest desires. But what happens if Callie asks for more? Will Theo break his only rule…no falling in love? “Then his mouth was against my ear, his voice low and calm. He whispered, “Tell me what you want.” “Do you want to find out what makes a woman moan? Do you want to take a chance with a beautiful stranger?” “Yes,” I said, taking a breath. “Yes.” Note from the Author: The Bedroom Secrets Series are stand alone scorching hot romances set in the Holiday apartment building in Seattle. They do not need to be read in order. Enjoy Callie's search for happily ever after!

His Five Night Stand (Bedroom Secrets Series Book 1), by Emma Thorne

From the Author Welcome to the world of Bedroom Secrets. Each book focuses on a different woman who lives in the Holiday Apartments in Seattle and her unique and sexy story. These stories are quests for happily ever after and the journey to your one true love. Characters cross over from book to book and reappear in other stories. People and events are intertwined but each book stands alone and does not require knowledge from a previous book to enjoy. The fun part about writing these books is the creative freedom I have with each woman's unique love story.

  • Book 1 - His Five Night Stand - Callie falls in love with a sexy brooding artist and sculptor.
  • Book 2 - His Four Poster Bed - Odessa faces the dark secrets of a sexy billionaire.
  • Novella 1 - His Secret Love - Theo's Story Learn more detail and the truth behind Theo's broken heart.
  • Book 3 - His Three Piece Suit - Shea will have to choose whether to give her heart to a cowboy or a suit.
All of these women have different personalities and desires which translates to variety and smoking hot sex scenes mixed with a whole lot of fun.You do not need to read the books in order but I started the series with Callie's story in "His Five Night Stand" for a reason. Callie's journey takes her from her perceived ordinary world to the doors of the Holiday where she crosses path with a vibrant and sexy group of women who seem to love being in love. Callie's transformation takes place inside the walls of her bedroom at the Holiday. I started with Callie since it is a great way to explain the sexy magic of the building and meet the women whose stories will drive the rest of the series.Later books will move beyond the walls of the building, but the friendship these women share started at the Holiday and they never forget who they are and how much they mean to each other. I had an incredibly fun time writing this first book and others in the series. I truly hope that you enjoy this trip to a world where sexy + fun = happily ever after.XO Emma

The Holiday is a "magical" apartment building that is a balm for the hearts the men and women who live there. They are all in need of something to help them but are beautiful and talented in their own right, as well. Odessa seems to be the "house mother" who knows what they all need and goes about setting up their healing relationship. The main characters, Callie and Theo seem to share a deep hurt and broken heart that need to be fixed. Callie was just dumped by her not-quite-committed fiancé. Something happened in Theo's past to not only cause him pain, but causes him to develop a rigid plan to keep his heart safe by having only Five Night Stands with any woman. He and Callie touch a chord in each other and their 5 nights begin. To watch them cross boundaries and not be afraid is a really happy feeling. I think I just knew that they were going to be okay as individuals and, hopefully, as a couple. There were a number of twists that made the whole book richer and an outcome that made me sigh and smirk!! I really suggest that you read this wonderfully written book!

Everyone can relate to a brokenheart & the hope to find real love.Callie's relationship ends after 5 years, without any warning or not seeing the signs. She moves into The Holiday apartments and meets some of the tenants, Shae, Troy, Bella, Billie, Theo & Odessa, to name a few.She makes new friendships, gains confidence & falls for "the boy next door".Totally a Girl Power story with steamy scenes to keep it interesting. Must read!

If you are looking for a fun and romantic read this is for you....Emma's style of writing makes you laugh out loud, fills your heart with hope, pulls at your heart strings and the hot sex is a bonus. I am the mother of three young children and with little or no time to read and little or no time for sex I finished this happily ever after in just two nights. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

In this vibrant new historical novel, the acclaimed author of The Plum Tree and What She Left Behind explores one young woman's determination to put an end to child labor in a Pennsylvania mining town. . .As a child, Emma Malloy left isolated Coal River, Pennsylvania, vowing never to return. Now, orphaned and penniless at nineteen, she accepts a train ticket from her aunt and uncle and travels back to the rough-hewn community. Treated like a servant by her relatives, Emma works for free in the company store. There, miners and their impoverished families must pay inflated prices for food, clothing, and tools, while those who owe money are turned away to starve. Most heartrending of all are the breaker boys Emma sees around the village--young children who toil all day sorting coal amid treacherous machinery. Their soot-stained faces remind Emma of the little brother she lost long ago, and she begins leaving stolen food on families' doorsteps, and marking the miners' bills as paid. Though Emma's actions draw ire from the mine owner and police captain, they lead to an alliance with a charismatic miner who offers to help her expose the truth. And as the lines blur between what is legal and what is just, Emma must risk everything to follow her conscience. An emotional, compelling novel that rings with authenticity--Coal River is a deft and honest portrait of resilience in the face of hardship, and of the simple acts of courage that can change everything.

20 of 23 people found the following review helpful. complex and engrossing story By Liz I just finished reading Coal River. It was unexpectedly enjoyable. The plot has layer after layer which are unraveled at just the right moments. Without giving too much away the story is that of an older teen girl who loses her parents and must live with her less than kind aunt and uncle. She moves to the Pennsylvania mining town of Coal River, where she once stayed for a few months as a child. She eventually becomes involved in the cause of improving conditions for miners and their families, particularly for children working there. The focus is really this crusade with her personal family life and small town politics taking on supporting roles in the storyEach of the main characters is incredibly well developed. The more minor characters are also brought to life in a vivid way. Many characters developed in unexpected ways. I often found myself realizing someone wasn't what I had imagined them to be without really being able to pinpoint when the change occurred. This depth of writing made for emotional reading. I was physically tense during the more intense parts of the book, felt warm and happy during the few sweet/romantic parts, and cried during the particularly sad parts. Start to finish, this book was an emotional experience. While I can't say for sure how much of the history presented is accurate everything I've fact checked checks out although at different times and places. There is an attention to historical authenticity not often found in non fiction literature. Everything from the clothes to the mining process to the way miners families lived is, often sadly, correct from a historical standpoint. Wiseman takes license to tell the story as it could have happened. She does this believably, the mark of an accomplished author of historical fiction. Although this is a minor detail the one glaring error was a funeral prayer. A priest at that time would have said the prayers in Latin rather than English. Not a big deal and this in no way detracts from the plot but it stuck out to me in an otherwise very well researched book.If I had to come up with something I don't like about the book it would be that while the descriptive writing paints an incredible picture it gets to be somewhat tedious after the first hundred pages or so. Still good reading but could be made better by omitting some of the redundant and recurrent adjectives. That said, throughout the book I was able to picture the people and locations in detail. I was never left wondering how a place or a character looked. This is a book where I would pick it up, intending to read for a little while, and find myself saying 'one more chapter' over and over until I look up and hours had gone by. It's a wonderful book for those who like to lose themselves in what they're reading. While I began a bit haltingly I couldn't put it down after the first few chapters. Although I'm more of a non fiction reader this novel has earned a long term spot on my shelf, I'm looking forward to rediscovering it in a few years and getting to read it again.

Griffith Having loved "Plum Tree" by Ellen Marie Wiseman, I was happy to receive a (free) advanced uncorrected proof of her new novel, "Coal River" to review. This book does have heavy subject matter, being about life at Coal Mines in the early 1900s; Wiseman did an excellent job with it, although serious history buffs might balk at some creative changes in the actual time line to better fit the story line.Emma Malloy is 19 when she arrives back in Coal River, Pennsylvania as the lesser of two bad options available to her. The townspeople consider her cursed and view her as an omen of bad luck. Years earlier, when she was staying at her aunt and uncle's home with her younger brother, a tragic accident happened. Her brother fell through the ice and drowned. Now she's been orphaned following her parents' demise in a fire. On the day she arrives, the train she's been travelling on also brings a number of immigrants looking for work at the coal mine. This upsets families who have been working the mines for generations.Emma's Uncle Otis is a supervisor at the mine; he and her Aunt Ida make it clear that while they're willing to take her in, they intend for her to work both at home and in the mine company's general store with her cousin, Percy, to earn her keep. All of her earnings will go to them. Emma doesn't have any means to escape her circumstances. She's horrified by the conditions the miners and their families must endure. The mine owner, Mr. Flint, is clearly written as the villain in this story, but many of the townspeople are also cast in a dark light. The miners live in a small, run down community partially up the mountain... away from town. When she recognizes their struggles, particularly the fact that so many young boys are also working at the mine under dangerous conditions, Emma does her best to help them in ways which aren't strictly legal. In doing so, she befriends Clayton Nash, a leader in the mining community who hopes to establish a union of the mine workers.I don't want to give away too much of the story. It's steadily paced and I was able to read the novel in one day. Most of the characters are well developed and the plot is interesting. My only disappointment--no spoilers--is how the story ends. In this reader's opinion, the twist is almost along the lines of a fairy tale. For that reason, I'm rating the book 4 stars. Your impression might vary. I do look forward to other novels by this author.

Heartbreaking look at child labor in early 1900s coal mine By Cheryl Stout Emma Malloy ends up back in Coal River, Pennsylvania after nine years away. Her and her parents left Coal River after the heartbreaking death of her younger brother and ended up working in the theatre business in New York City. After the tragic death of her parents, she ends up living with a mean-spirited aunt and uncle in Coal River, having to work away the "debt" of their supporting her.Bleak Mountain Mining Company is in Coal River and it doesn't take Emma long at all to see the terrible injustices being perpetrated against the miners and their children by the mine owner and the supervisors, including her uncle. This is a rich historical tale, making the reader really feel what life was like in this small mining town. There are many passages in the book that are difficult to read because of the child labor and harsh working conditions.Emma is 19 years old (a young 19 at that) and acts like it in this story, being very impetuous and not necessarily thinking before she speaks. That was frustrating at times. I felt like reaching into the pages of the book and clapping a hand over her mouth.I enjoyed and appreciated the story up until the very end and then there was an abrupt ending that didn't fit with the rest of the story. Disappointing.

There’s a hot billionaire in the carpool line that has every mom putting on her lipstick before she drops her kid off to school. Me included. But I can’t be tempted by a body hewn from granite or eyes that could melt the polar ice caps… because that hot billionaire is also my boss, Ryan Sheridan. Single moms like me can’t play with fire. Especially not when I’ve finally landed a job that pays a decent salary, and even managed to buy a townhouse where I can raise my son without my parents looking over my shoulder, shaking their heads. So I’ll keep reminding myself that, even as his sapphire eyes pry their way into my heart, threatening to unlock the secrets that I keep hidden in a dark corner of my soul. My past could destroy the life I’ve built for my son and me. I can’t afford full disclosure. * Full Disclosure, Book Two of the Homefront: The Sheridans series, is a stand-alone romance with no cliffhangers. *

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Another great read. By Lisa Don't know how you do it. I have loved every book and can't wait for the final book in the Homefront series. With Kate's books you laugh, you cry, and you melt. The way you write characters warts and all, I feel the same way about chocolate eggs...and the scathing indictment of new math priceless! Keep it up and I hope that you can quit your day job soon so we don't have to wait so long. Read them all then read them again!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. best book yet! By Denise H Best book yet! The character development was so thoughtful and thorough, I was hooked from the start. About 3/4 of the way through I remembered its a book and hesitated to continue reading so fast because I didn't want to have to part with Kim and Ryan at the end of this story and not get to follow these characters for the rest of their lives. I'm also a fan for the rescue dog angle :) and love that that is still part of the Sheridans story. Keep the books coming, Ms. Aster!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. 4 Hearts for Ryan & Kim By Romance Between The Sheets Please note this review may contain spoilers. In FULL DISCLOSURE, both Ryan and Kim are single parents to their young children. They're attracted to each other, but Kim is hesitant to act on it because Ryan is her boss and because her son's father is a secret to everyone, and she plans on keeping it that way. Kim was nice. She doesn't have much, but she gives what she can and she absolutely adores her son. Due to an event in her past, she lacks confidence and questions herself often, which I found a little annoying. Ryan, on the other hand, was great. This is a man who gave up his dream to take over the family business to keep the family's legacy alive. But he's more than just a billionaire CEO; he donates his time flying sick kids to hospitals, he loves his daughter very much, and he truly cares about his staff and the community at large. I have to say though that my favourite part was reading about his OCD. The eggs and the money had me laughing out loud because that is so me.FULL DISCLOSURE is told in dual POVs and while it's part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone. I don't mind a little bit of a lead-up to the big reveal, but I didn't like the constant inner-monologue Kim had about her secret. What I did like is that Ryan's ex-wife didn't re-appear. I kept expecting her to show up and cause trouble, because let's face it, sometimes books can be predictable, but we never heard from her again after the prologue, and I am very glad it was written that way.

Awful scenario By Maggie The hero slept (without any protection) with the lead female character's worker/friend in a detailed scene in the book. The hero then had a relationship with the female lead and the worker/friend ends up pregnant with the hero's child. I do not know any woman who would be ok with this situation or would call this romance. Totally gross and unrealistic. I could maybe believe the story if the baby mama was some unknown female but to have your bf enpregnate your friend and co-worker that is just gross and weird. You cannot move on from that!!

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The female protagonist is a horrible whiny person By Amazon Customer The female protagonist is a horrible whiny person. I don't care if she got a happy ending because she was completely unlikable. She manipulates and drugs the main male character and treats everyone around her like garbage. Troubled characters often make great stories but she is not troubled. I couldn't finish the book because I hated her so much. I honestly don't know and don't care if anything works out for her.

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Fun, passionate read By Alicia2322 This was a fun read. I am glad it was not an insta-love scenario, and that the main characters actually got to know each other over time, even if they did butt heads a lot. Nice buildup of sexual tension let out in a crazy burst of passion. Really enjoyed this one!

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “Mac is back and badder than ever!”—J. R. WardMacKayla Lane and Jericho Barrons return in the blockbuster Fever series from Karen Marie Moning.   It’s easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing.   MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she’s already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.   When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed. Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani “Mega” O’Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.   It’s a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil is blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.Praise for Burned  “Karen Marie Moning is back, delivering the kind of spellbinding, addictive, twisted tale we love to devour. I waited so long for this and have looked forward to this book since Iced, and now I am extremely grouchy having finished it. KMM, I LOVE you. I ADORE you. Why have you done this to me? Your Fever series has been my absolute favorite series of all time up until now. I am going to vent, get this off my chest, then ignore that this installment ever happened and hope the next book is back on par with the other books in the series.SPOILERS AHEAD-I AM FEELING EMOTIONALLY UNSTABLE RIGHT NOW:What the hell is going on with Mac??? Why is she even more useless and vapid than the Mac in the first book of the Fever series? Why, KMM, why??? Mac came such a long way in the first 5 books and it is like her character development never happened. I am so incredibly disappointed in the portrayal of Mac in this book. I would have loved to read a book from Mac's perspective again if it was actually from Mac's POV. This is a Mac I don't recognize anymore. Certainly not the Mac that the last Fever book ended with. This Mac wasn't even as brave or determined as the Mac in the FIRST Fever book when she was clueless and bungling around with no idea about anything going on.Why does Barrons call Mac Ms. Lane again? Their romance and sizzle is gone. Buried, 6 feet under. I wish I could unread this book because the passion and sparks between the two are missing and it is sad. I can't mentally handle it after seeing one of the most scintillating romances ever in a series develop in the first 5 Fever books. I've reread the books a gazillion times just to experience the magic again. Nothing here. Nada. Zip. Zilch.Dani. Where do I start? Iced was a pretty damn good book from Dani's POV. I wasn't in love with it right away because Dani is annoying as hell. But she is SUPPOSED to be annoying! I get it, I grew to like it. I wanted to see Dani grow up, become a fierce woman. In this book, she became a DIFFERENT woman. The polar opposite of the Dani we kinda love and kinda want to smack upside the head at the same time. All of a sudden, Dani shows up, and she's grown up and a total stick in the mud. We don't see a transformation AT ALL. For all that happens in this book (very little), the book could have been about her adventures in the silvers and it would have been much more interesting. I feel cheated out of her character development.Subplots abound. I don't care about Kat. I don't care about Jo. Sue me. I just don't. Fillers everywhere. Little plot progression. No Christian, who is a VERY interesting character, until the end. I thought Christian was one of the most intriguing characters in Iced. I wanted more of him.Barrons and Ryoden are just dudes in this book. A book about my Uncle Bob might have been more attention grabbing. Barrons is an animal. Totally beastly and sex-ay. Not in this book. He's barely around and when he is, he's flat as a board. Ryo is suddenly developing feelings? Since when? He says he isn't, denies it like crazy, but does silly things like padding Jo's ego. Ryo would never do such a thing. Never in a million years.I am totally blown by away by how angry this book has made me! I don't recognize the characters anymore and basically nothing happened. I can't give it less than 3 stars though because these are such coveted characters and I want to read about them again, in recognizable form. Please KMM, I beg you to bring back the Mac and Barrons, Dani, Christian, Dancer, Ryoden, etc. that we know and love as readers. Bring back the sizzle, action, violence, fast-paced plot. All of it! I want it back! I am not giving up on you, woman.

The previous book ("Iced") was an interesting story with a novel character, and I was looking forward to the confrontation between Mac and Dani. While "Iced" did most things right, "Burned" did everything wrong. First, it seems that Mac had turned into a vapid, pointless, mouth-breathing excuse for a heroine that turns into a drooling idiot anytime that a dreamy, hunky man crosses her line of sight or even crosses her mind. It's like the author completely forgot how to balance an active lead's romantic interests with being a useful and proactive heroine. Mac degenerated in this book from what she had been in previous efforts. She seemed to lose every argument that she had with anyone, particularly the dreamy, hunky men. Also, the author managed to totally ruin the character of Dani. Dani used to be the most interesting character, partially because we got to see what a young, rambunctious, and fearless young woman could be as she developed her superhero chops. The author decided that rather than continue what was previously a successful bit of character development, that she wanted to instead bypass that and artificially age Dani. She turned a unique character who could grow into being an adult into a full-fledged commando sex-bomb with none of the characteristics that made Dani special. My guess is that the author wants to have another once-promising character be available for sexy-times with all the misogynistic, dreamy, hunky men that she's populated her books with. The story itself was fairly lame, taking a long time to develop and not really having what I would normally consider to be a "big conflict." While most of the story was from Mac's point of view, there were a number of shifts to the perspective of other characters, all of which felt random and none of which were necessary for the story. I've also become somewhat tired of "the Nine." They're all huge and muscular and dreamy and they win every philosophical point when they engage in debate with the women-folk.I'm not sure why the author decided to go from a good urban fantasy story with an integrated romance angle to a bad romance in an urban fantasy setting, but I'm disappointed by the entire effort. When I finished "Iced," I was really looking for to "Burned," and burned is just what I got. Just not in a good way.

I think some of the struggle that Karen dealt with is pretty evident in this book. She originally intended this story line to be more books and focused on Dani and then another set of books returning to Mac. I think the pressure applied by fans and editors who were uncomfortable with Dani's age was detrimental to Karen's story here. I trusted her to handle the situation correctly, but obviously not everyone did. This book really had the feel that Karen was forced to shove 8 books of stories she had planned out into 3 now. The story was all over the place. It felt a lot like reading a script for a soap opera. You get a bit of drama from everyone's lives but never really enough to satisfy you or feel as though any story really got fully told. There were a few scenes that were very sweet and gave you a deeper look into some characters feelings, and that was nice. And even though I was excited about the prospect of getting more Mac/Barrons action, I found myself really missing Dani. She was really relegated to a side character in this book and you don't get much of her voice. If you're a fan of the fever series then you need to read it. I have a feeling it is really setting up the end game for us, but I don't think it will end up being anyone's favorite book in the series. It is actually the only book written by KMM that I can't see myself reading over and over again.
