On New Year's Day, a dog finds a bone in the Hollywood Hills--and unearths a murder committed more than twenty years earlier. It's a cold case, but for Detective Harry Bosch, it stirs up memories of his childhood as an orphan. He can't let it go. As the investigation takes Bosch deeper into the past, a beautiful rookie cop brings him alive in the present. No official warning can break them apart--or prepare Bosch for the explosions when the case takes a few hard turns. City of Bones, by Michael Connelly

Amazon.com Review Since his first appearance in 1992's Edgar-winning The Black Echo, Detective Hieronymous "Harry" Bosch has joined Dennis Lehane's Patrick and Angie, George Pelecanos's Derek Strange, and Greg Rucka's Atticus Kodiak in the pantheon of new-school hard-boiled detectives. Rather than giving Bosch a clever gimmick (like Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme, who is a quadriplegic), Michael Connelly embraces the noir archetype: Bosch, an L.A. homicide detective, is a chain-smoking loner who refuses to play by his superiors' rules. Although he has quit smoking, Harry's still the same tightlipped outsider, taking each crime as a personal affront as he tries to cleanse his beloved city of the darkness he sees engulfing it.

In City of Bones, Connelly's eighth Bosch title, Bosch and his well-dressed partner, Jerry Edgar, are working to identify a child's skeleton, buried for 20 years in the forest off Hollywood's Wonderland Drive, and to bring the killer to belated justice. For Bosch this is more than just another homicide, as the mystery child, beaten and abandoned, comes to represent much of what he sees as evil in his city. Add in a tragic love affair with a fellow cop, complications from overzealous media, and the growing feeling that he's fighting a losing battle about which no one cares, and the usually stoic Bosch is pushed to his limits. This isn't the strongest plot Connelly has concocted for Bosch, but it leads to an ending the whole series has been building toward. The conclusion may not shock longtime fans, but it will leave them wondering where the series will go from here. --Benjamin Reese

From Publishers Weekly Harry Bosch is at the top of his form which is great news for Connelly fans who might have been wondering how much life the dour, haunted LAPD veteran had left in him. His latest adventure is as dark and angst-ridden as any of Bosch's past outings, but it also crackles with energy especially in the details of police procedure and internal politics that animate virtually every page. What other crime writer could make such dramatic use of the fact that the front door of a house trailer swings out rather than in, creating problems for a two-man team of detectives? Who else would create to such credible narrative effect an egotistic celebrity coroner who jeopardizes an investigation because she lets a TV camera crew from Court TV follow her around, or an overage female rookie cop so in love with danger that she commits an unthinkable act? When the bones of an abused 12-year-old boy who disappeared in 1980 turn up in the woods above Hollywood (near a street named Wonderland, where former governor Jerry Brown used to live), the case stirs up Bosch's memories of his own troubled childhood. Also, as his captain so aptly points out, Harry is the LAPD's prime "shit magnet," an investigator who attracts muck and trouble wherever he goes. So it's no great surprise when the investigation takes a couple of nasty turns, right up through the last chapter. Connelly is such a careful, quiet writer that he can slow down the story to sketch in some relatively minor characters a retired doctor, a couple who lived through their foster children without missing a beat. (One-day laydown Apr. 16)Forecast: Connelly doesn't need much help in hitting the charts, but Little, Brown is going all out anyway, with a massive television, radio and print ad campaign, transit ads in New York and a 10-city author tour. Expect blockbuster sales and blockbuster satisfaction. Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc.

From Library Journal The trouble with Harry: wrapped up in a fresh new love affair and a case involving the scattered bones of a long-dead child, he finds that he must make a momentous decision. Copyright 2001 Reed Business Information, Inc.

By Silver Springer I have heard lots of good comments about the Harry Bosch novels and I was not disappointed with this seventh book of the series. Bosch is a hard boiled homocide detective in the Hollywood division of the LAPD who gets a call that a dog has discovered a human bone. The investigation uncovers a 20 year old murder of a 12 year-old boy who was the victim of child abuse. As the case proceeds, Bosch meets and becomes involved with a rookie cop named Julia Brasher, who has an idealistic view of police work. Some information leaks and false clues initially sidetrack the investigation but slowly the victim is identified and his short and tortured life revealed. Connelly draws his characters with fine strokes and his development of the details of the police procedures which are key to solving cases was really fascinating to me. Understanding the murder book, how warrants were drawn up and served, and details behind the forensic investigation added to my enjoyment of the story.False directions provide intrigue but I was a little disappointed with the unsatisfying way the murderer was revealed and dealt with. All in all though, a fast paced (I read it in one 24 hour period), and very enjoyable read.

The last couple of Connelly's novels about Detective Harry Bosch seemed a bit off pace, so I was waiting for a tolerant moment. Once I started reading I discovered that my premonitions were wrong, and that this was going to be a high water mark in the eight volume series.Michael Connelly has a trick of creating an introspective mood without actually making his characters become solipsistic, and 'City of Bones' at its deepest level is about Harry Bosch coming to grips with his own beliefs and needs. This subtext threads its way through a case involving the 20-year-old corpse of a young boy found buried in a small plot of woods. Cases this old are rarely soluble, but somehow just enough information keeps coming to the surface to keep Bosch and his partner, Jerry Edgar, working away at the case. Gradually Bosch becomes fixated on the case as its ramifications begin to have echoes in his own life. One of the key factors in Bosch's character development is a new relationship with rookie police officer Julia Brasher. She is the officer on duty at the murder site, and is drawn into the investigation. This relationship becomes the model for all the other relationships in the book; especially those Bosch has with his partner and his work. In the end it triggers something unexpected in the older detective, and will eventually cause him to make some surprising decisions.Beyond the character level, the plot is tightly drawn and well paced. Generally, a story that turns on forensic police procedure is interesting rather than exciting, but Connelly has goes to great lengths to prove that this does not have to be the case. There is a surfeit of plot twists and the high emotional pitch will keep the reader on tenterhooks - a delightful form of torture, too rarely experienced in the present.Obviously, I enjoyed the book. I found myself intentionally slowing down my reading speed in order to extend my pleasure with a writer whose minimalist style always seems to have more to say than the efforts of wordier contemporaries. This is a milestone in the Harry Bosch series, but hopefully not its last, shining moment.

It really left me unsatisfied By MadHatter Lets start off with telling you how much i love Michael Connelly's books, but then this one just left me not satisfied at all.first off, the book got me really hooked, i really liked it alot!when a simple walk out with the dog turns up a bone from the woods, and investigation goes out to search for where the bone comes from. very good with some details and such, but then the only negative of this book is that it left too many questions unanswerd. I didn't like it the way it ended, when they find or think this person is the kids killer, then bam...what the?? i really wanted to know what went on! if i give any more information about it, then i would basically be giving away the book.its a good read, but if your the type that doesn't like to dwell on why this wasn't answered or what happened to cause this killing...then this book isn't for you.

This one has a bit of everything you can imagine; a rescue of a researcher, computer hacking by unknowns, car chase through the streets of Washington DC, major gun shootout, a bit of science with Ancient DNA research. Yep, this 5 star Novella has it ALL! Well done Mr James Rollins! NOW, we want more

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. A decent read for the price. By Nilesh Nimkar It is a decent standalone Sigma story. It is nice to see Kowalski get some screen time for a change. James does take some liberties with how computers work and in this day and age that's a shame. E.g. a hacker does not need a person to physically unlock a computer to hack it remotely. If it's hackable remotely it will be compromised remotely. Also it's pointless to "bounce" a connection across a internal LAN with only eight desktops. He really should have talked to someone who knows computers. Hence the three stars or else this book was worth four stars. Also included are the first few chapters of the new upcoming book which have piqued my curiosity and will probably make me spend money on it.

9 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Adventure on the Mall as only Rollins can write it. By John Patin A good intro. Of COURSE this short story is a teaser for an upcoming novel - but that is a good thing. While Midnight Watch might very well turn out to be the opening chapter of The Bone Labyrinth, it stands on its own as a tight, thrilling, short story. It has a beginning, a middle and an END. You want to know what the bad guys were up to, of course, but this short doesn't leave you hanging on the edge of a cliff. Also, the good news is that Labyrinth is due out in December, so no real wait in any case. Well worth the 99 cents.

Bittersweet Starlet and Cantankerous Greek By Erani Kole *received an arc in exchange for an honest review*This was as adorable as it was sad and maddening. Pollyanna's a sweet girl, and the only one on the island who has no idea of the secrets lurking so close to home. I absolutely loved Kyr and his cantankerous attitude the whole duration of this book, and it was sweet to see him slowly open up. Until it all went to hell. The writing was amazing, immediately drawing me in and making me forget that I was ever reading words on a page. The dialogue- inside and out the mind -flowed nicely, and again, I'm surprised at how much I found myself drawn to Kyr. He's on my naughty list right now but his initial reaction to her, his first impressions on meeting Pollyanna, made his previous feelings and character seem more real. There was no fall first think later for him, he had a torturous fall while completely aware of it all (good for you).As part one to their story, the romance's build-up was extremely sweet on Polly's end, totally had me in rapture. Kyr's was a little more bittersweet because he fought with facing his past and keeping his future. If 'part one' didn't clue you in on this having a cliffhanger, then I'm here to tell you it ends on a doozy of a cliffhanger. It never fares well to hang on a cliff like that, but in this case I'd say I'm glad it didn't leave me like it had the chapter before. I was an emotional wreck.I recommend this really cute story with the full course meal of drama, the hot amazing sexuals, and the ill-mannered thoughts of a Greek billionaire who just can't seem to be any different from the Tin Man himself: cold and heartless. But don't read it for that jerk of a man, read it for the breath of fresh air and almost fairy-tale like wonder that is Polly's life, set on the beautiful Greek island, Teleios. Definitely makes me think back to my first love.

He knows it will take a lot of hard work. He tells Ana it will take a few years, but he will make the resort profitable.Ana is spoiled by her parents and Kyr. The Islanders think she is proper and sweet, and perfect for Kyr. Ana always dreamed of leaving the island and making it big. Kyr ask Ana to wait until he can make the resort a success. When he catches Ana sneaking off the island, he's devastated. He tells her if she leaves, she loses him forever. When she left, she destroyed his heart.Pollyanna is visiting her Godparents for the summer. She meets Kyr, the arrogant Billionaire. She worms her way into his life. She shows him how to have fun and enjoy life. She is sweet, kind, and selfless. She falls madly in love with Kry, not knowing he has no love to return. You can't help but love these Greek billionaires. Ms. Tee knows how to write like no one else when it comes to these sexy arrogant men. Kry is starting out a little tamer then the other Greek men........I didn't use my tissues :) But, I think she's going to hit us hard in the next two books. I hate the waiting between books, the suspense kills me !!!! I think Ms. Tee gets sadistic pleasure with her cliffhangers ;)As usual, Ms. Tee delivers.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A touch of heartache. By F.A. Woke up this morning, and was suprised by Ms. Tee about her new book. I read it in one sitting.I remembered this Greek Billionaire as the author previously stated where he made an appearance. The prologue for the hero was definitely bitter and heartbreaking. I felt for him and it changed him.The heroine, Pollyana was innocent in all ways and very sweet but that was the trait that captured Kyrillos attention. In her own way, she was able to pass through most of Kyrillos' defenses, still he did not want to give his heart to her because of what he experienced and when he learned of Pollyana's relationship to a certain someone.I felt for Pollyana when Kyrillos used her when he learned the latest news about Ana although he admitted he was selfish wherein Pollyana was concerned. The ending, well, I understood from his point of view that it was deja vu so I did not expect what he would do.I will definitely prepare myself for the heartache especially about Pollyana when she discovers the secrets that Kyrillos kept from her. Can't wait for the next book and hopefully, I don't have to wait too long for the next two books.I receivd an arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Meghan and Bryce are the perfect couple. Then they breakup and Meghan is with Eric. What a roller coaster of emotions. Meghan knows what she wants but can't ask Eric. Bryce is so in love with Meghan and i was cheering for them. But it all works out. I absolutely loved this book. Can't wait for the next one.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Hot. Hot. Hot. By Laurie S I loved the idea of coming to terms with their sexuality. I also liked the authors ability to see that it is possible to love more than one person. The one thing that I kept coming back to though is the unsafe sex. In today's age of HIV and AIDS I would have liked to see the use of condoms especially going from anal to vaginal sex.

5 of 7 people found the following review helpful. 2.5 stars- It's okay but don't expect any love or emotional connection with between the characters because it's all about HER. By Joy I liked this book at first. The writing was fine, pacing, structure and plot was good, but I just couldn't put my finger on what was bothering me about this story. It didn't hit me until further into the book when I realized the main character is amazingly self centered. She's very in touch with what she wants sexually and not afraid to take steps to ensure what she wants, but she doesn't really take the male character's feelings into consideration. The story is centered around what the Protagonist wants and not about what the male leads need. The story is basically made up of three acts, Protagonist's relationship with first man, P's relationship with second man and the last act is about the Protagonist's efforts to integrate the two men into a functioning threesome relationship.MILD SPOILERS AHEAD.Act 1: The female main character (henceforth referred to as MC) discovers her secret need to have sex with two men and her bf's latent bi tendencies. It get's taken a little too far and the bf makes a mistake, confesses and MC get's upset and leaves him.Act 2: MC has a new bf and then proceeds to "convert" him to bi-sex so her need for threesome sex can be fulfilled. He doesn't fight too much, but she get's upset when he isn't as emotionally into it as she wants him to be. This get's resolved by the bf submitting to her demands.Act 3: MC is mildly unsatisfied with casual threesomes, at the same time her ex reaches out to her to apologize. She refuses to talk with him, but they see each other out and about and he kisses her bringing her to the realization that she is still lusting after her ex. This is confusing to her since she's "In love" with her current man and doesn't want to screw it up, but can't shake the lustful thoughts she still has for the ex. The rest of the act is the MC trying to line all the ducks in a row for the complete package- a long term, monogamous menage relationship. This book is mostly about the MC's need for satisfying her own sexual desires and the two men are peripheral satellites that orbit her planet, so to speak. The MC mentions how much she "Loves" her bf's, but her actions speak more of Manipulation than love. At the end I was hoping that the two men would run off and leave the MC, I found her that distasteful. There were a lot of sex scenes with random thirds and were fine. If you are looking for a "Hot" read then this would satisfy that requirement, but if you were looking for an emotional connection handled with sensitivity and a fulfilling loving EQUAL relationship between all three characters, you need to go elsewhere. It was hard to have any connection with any of the characters because it was written in third person, mostly from the MC's perspective and since I didn't find the MC a very sympathetic character, I never felt anything for any of the characters. There's another thing that skeeved me out, none of the characters ever used any condoms! When you having sex with strangers I would expect there to be some protection. Yes, this is fiction and talking about condoms isn't sexy or romantic, but you know what else isn't sexy? STDs.My problem is that I like stories with a real connection between all the characters not just hot sex. I want to see that the characters are making sacrifices to be together and really working out all the issues that a MMF relationship might have in their lives. If you're just looking for a light, sexy read that's written better than most of the other menage books out on Kindle right now, then pick it up. If you're looking for an emotionally satisfying menage romance then you may want to skip this one.
