After decades of squandering and abusing the earth’s natural resources the future of mankind was bleak. Humanity searched the earth for any remaining energy, hoping to discover an answer before the lights went out. They resurrected the ancient grounds of Eden, hoping to find its power – an extraordinary ore offering an unlimited source of energy. Gabriel Roberts, the son of the ore's discoverer, awakens to a horrific storm that kills his mother and leaves him with a piece of the ore plunged into his chest. He survives and is found by rescue teams the next day; their helpful nature changes as they discover what's in his chest. Panicked Gabriel unleashes a massive explosion from the ore in his chest. His estranged brother, Adin, arrives after the blast and takes him to hide live with him in the metropolis of Denver. It isn't long before strangers come looking for Gabriel. Attacked in the night, Gabriel is saved by a young woman with supernatural abilities. She leaves him promptly with only a warning to stay hidden and not to trust anyone. Gabriel rushes back to reconnect with his brother, but trouble follows and rips the two apart once again. Gabriel makes a daring escape, hoping Adin will be spared as their attackers chase after him. His world begins to spin out of control as he discovers a hidden war, raging on behind the scenes. As Gabriel learns about the true nature of the ore in his chest, he is forced to choose a side. A decision that will shape the course of humanity.

Review The world that B. V. Bayly creates is really intriguing and the futuristic technology that is described has been really well thought through, which makes the story that much more believable and immersive. The characters were similar in this respect, which, when combined, made for a really good read - OnlineBookClub.org The concept of Eden's ore and the meaning behind the name, the uses and misuses of the ore, the human torture in the name of saving mankind, the groups of people involved to discover the secrets of the ores- the gangsters, the involvement of the church, scientists & their experiments, the government's involvement; negative and positive uses of the ores, secret labs... WOW!! I felt like I was either reading a Dan Brown novel or watching a James Bond movie. I feel B.V. Bayly is the upcoming Dan Brown in the field of sci-fi writings. - Crazy Bibliophile! What a great read! I was hooked from the beginning. The author set the scene and pace very quickly but left time to develop the characters very well. I had a hard time putting this book down. It had a very original idea and was a fantastic and enthralling story from start to finish. I can't wait to read more from B.V. Bayly - Book NuttersI'd recommend this Sci-Fi/Fantasy & even fans of YA. There's everything from action, discovery, science and a bit of a mystery. If that's not enough, the main character makes the story highly enjoyable and I found myself rooting for him. - The Reader's Hollow
From the Author This is the beginning of an amazing series. I dream of seeing hundreds of thousands of people enjoy my story. I wanted to make it that way so there would be no barrier for anyone to experience my world. Please share it, and encourage others to do the same.Welcome to my world. BVB

Thanks to YA Buddy Reader's Corner !This review was originally posted on Goodreads. Also, by my reviewing standards, this book rated 1 star)Oh boy, how I've struggled with this one ! I've never met a more annoying set of characters, I don't even know where to start. Maybe by the several things that bothered me throughout the whole story ?I feel like the characters aren't fleshed out enough. In the end, we know so very little about them. Despite everything, not enough time was spent on them as characters. There's also the fact that Gabriel is so annoying during, at least, a good 80% of the book. The thing that bothered me the most though is how casual and jaded he is about the whole ore-thing in the beginning. He's not even a little bit curious, he's just content lounging in his brother's apartment, letting his brother do all the work, and asking about what his brother found just as he would ask for the weather report in Taiwan ! I mean, it's not like the whole thing is happening to him, it's not like, if he takes into account everything he knows about ore, he's probably going to die because of the giant crystal embedded in his chest ! There's also a lot of, in my opinion, useless back and forth between Gabriel and Adin. They keep arguing about the same things, repeating the same stuff. It doesn't move the plot along, and it makes you feel like you're stuck on repeat. I also feel like the different POVs weren't necessary, especially Dr Cymru and Nate.On the whole, I think the idea was interesting, but the execution was really clumsy. It didn't feel finished, in my opinion. I expected a lot more, and I wasn't given anything I might have hoped for.

A fun and light adventure By Jesica Disclaimer: I received an copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest reviewIn a world where the world has advanced technology but can't find ways to sustain the energy needed, the ores are the answer to everyone's prayers. Gabriel's dad is the one that discovered them, and worked in TERA, a powerful organization that makes technology that works on the ores powers. But after the death of his father, Gabriel is raised by his mother and Nate, his father's best friend, while his brother decides to work for TERA to continue his father's legacy. But one night everything changes, and Gabriel realizes that there is way more to the ores that he knows.I really enjoyed this book. It was just what I wanted: A bit futuristic, with some mysterious powers, and good characters. I loved the writing, and some say that it starts slow, but to me, it gave me time to get to know the world, the characters and to connect to the story.I liked Gabriel, he can be a bit immature at times but he's strong, smart (most of the time) and knows what's important. I also liked Nate, and I want to know more about his past. I didn't find them annoying.I liked the story, I didn't find it slow or boring. It did feel a bit... small, but the world develops and expands even more in the second book.

I very much enjoyed reading this book and couldn't put it down. When I rate a book with four stars it means that I really liked it and five stars means it's one of my favorites. I felt like this book was in between.I loved the flow of events and how it all worked together as one. However there were times when I thought it jumped to the next event too quickly, not necessarily in the story, but rather in the writing(but also I've been sick when reading this so that also might partially be me). Otherwise! I thought it was great! This books grabs your attention immediately and holds it throughout the book and keeps you thinking about it when you stop reading, wondering what's going to happen next!I can't wait to read the next one and see the progression of the story as well as the writing! :D
