Elisa Mancini is a Nobody. Painfully insecure, more at ease with books than with people, at twenty-three she’s a university dropout living at her aunt’s, drifting from one day to another, and waiting for something big to happen. Judith Shapiro is a Somebody. Arrogant and eccentric, she’s a superstar of mathematics, the subject of scientific articles, and the undisputed ruler of the world around her. In a trillionth of a trillionth of a second, Elisa falls madly in love with Judith Shapiro. For sixty-eight days she is the mistress of an internationally acclaimed mathematician. But loving Judith Shapiro is like running a marathon in a war zone. As days pass, Elisa’s wild infatuation takes on a suicidal bent, and the world around her starts to go to pieces. Just as everything is about to blow up, the moment of truth comes. Absolute Truth, For Beginners is a story about truth, time and love. Or about identity, positive nursing, degrees of happiness, Baroque art, scientific theories, homosexual lovemaking, arrogant television producers, and becoming who you really are.

An intense and realistic love story By Léatitia Brière From my blog :Just like with her first book, Witchcraft Couture, Katarina West give us a unique, beautiful and gripping story. Way more than with her previous book, I felt so much for her main character and the things she was going through. Of course, there are a lot of things to say about Absolute Truth, For beginners, but I will give you four absolute truth you should know regarding this novel. Four things that will make you say : « I have to read this book too! »The first thing I absolutly loved, making this book a MUST READ, is the writing ! When you start reading Absolute Truth, it's hard to stop. I had to because of work and it was frustrating to not be able to continue turning the pages. This is the kind of writing and story that makes you think, reflect and realize things about yourself. The way Elisa falls in love is realistic and shows a bit of innocence, it also shows how love can be blind and makes you act as someone else, though it makes you grow up at the same time. At least, that's how I felt about the main character's journey until the end of the book.Second absolute truth is that this book is for everyone. Trully, I can say that you just need to enjoy great books to read this one. You will love the setting, the universe in which the characters are living in or just simply, as I just said above, because of the writing. It was a real pleasure to discover page after page, the core of the story and its meanings.Third excellent and absolute truth about this book : An intense and unique love story that will stay in your mind and heart. There are so many things to discuss about this book : is it wrong really to fall in love when you're not supposed to ? What does it say about you ? What to do when things get out of control ? Is there really a line we can cross regarding being with the one we love ?Fourth absolute truth is that this is a really good second book. Though I enjoyed the first one, I love Absolute Truth for beginners even more. I find a few of the same ingredients : the love of art, interesting characters, a special universe or just a very well developped topic along the book.I hope my review makes you want to discover Katarina West's books. She is a talented and very kind person.Happy reading!

The below review is from my blog SimplyBeingGreat. This book made me think a lot because I found myself connecting with the main character, a 24 year-old girl uncertain as to where her life is headed. The book starts with Elisabetta arriving at her first job, after over a year of graduating college. She has suffered the post-grad struggle, which I know so well and finally, found something to keep her feet wet, even if it’s not in her field of study, Art History.Throughout the story, taking place in Italy, a series of events unfold intertwined with the idea of time, love, unhealthy relationships, homosexuality, lack of self love, hopelessness, despair, mental instability and ultimately forgiveness. In just a little over 300 pages I was submerged into a story that really broke my heart.I thought of how many people, including myself, go through this long period of self-doubt and lack of self-love; swearing on everything that they are the only one’s walking on this unfortunate and long path. I know, because I find myself there at times. Then you pick up a book like Absolute Truth, For Beginners and you’re reminded that there is someone out there walking a path much similar to yours (maybe even worse and twice as complicated.)Each reader is different therefore, a book can get interpreted in many ways. For me, this book is a reminder. It reminded me that time is tricky, precious and rare. That life is what you make of it and that love is the hardest puzzle to ever be made…but that there’s someone out there willing to make it with you. You just have to wait for time to be on your side.*I kindly received the book for my honest review.*

Not because I had any doubt about Ms. West’s talent, but because I had no idea what this book was about. I just didn’t grasp what I was in store for, so I began the book with completely open eyes, and quickly became mesmerized with the words I read! It blew me away!Ms. West creates such likable characters. I commiserated with Elisa - I felt her nervousness and inability to enjoy the company of someone due to feelings of inadequacy… I have also felt the desperation of not being able to let go, of waiting for that one phone call.I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone, so I will end with saying that I feel like I actually mourned this book when I finished it. That’s how good it was.
