From Booklist

When Libby Miller receives a shocking cancer diagnosis from a less-than-empathetic doctor, she thinks it’s the worst thing that could happen to her. Having watched her mother slowly and agonizingly lose her own battle with cancer, Libby is determined that she will not put her family through a similar experience. She decides to forego treatment and is about to break the news to her husband, but before she can, he delivers astonishing news of his own. With no marriage to speak of and only months remaining, Libby decides to live like there’s no tomorrow. Telling no one of her plans, she escapes to the equatorial sun of Vieques, a small island near Puerto Rico. But will her resolve withstand the concern of her twin brother, the friendship of her island landlady, and the growing love of a handsome Puerto Rican pilot? Instead of doom and gloom, Libby’s journey is one of hilarious turns and heartfelt realizations. Though unrealistic, it is just the uplifting medicine some doctors would order. —Cortney Ophoff

Review

“More than just a cancer narrative, Life and Other Near Death Experiences is a story about seizing life and ditching what others expect of you. It will make you laugh. It will make you ugly cry. And it will make you want to live your own life to its greatest potential.” —HelloGiggles

“Camille Pagan's Life and Other Near-Death Experiences is anything but formulaic: it's unceasingly delightful, and Libby Miller is a sensitive, super-smart Everywoman hero you'll come to adore.” —Bustle

“Tackling two serious topics with grace and humor, Ms. Pagan has delivered a novel full of rich characters and a quick-paced story line...This story is an easy read about uneasy topics, something hard to accomplish but that Ms. Pagan does wonderfully.” —Manhattan Book Review

That was this book for me. I chose it as my October early-release freebie through Prime. The same day I ordered this, I downloaded about 4 other books through my public library. I was going to read a few pages from each book and see which grabbed my attention. I started with this book and just kept reading. It was well written and well edited. Witty humor was interjected throughout, and while centered around a deep subject, the book was light and yes, maybe a bit fluffy. I felt that the main characters were well developed and part of what kept me hooked was that I cared about Libby and wanted to see what happened to her. I appreciate that this was a "clean" book - no swearing, no explicit sex scenes, but I would have liked Libby's first love scene to have been slightly more detailed. At only a sentence or two long, at first I wasn't sure if it was something that had actually happened.I disagree with what one reviewer said about everything being neatly tied up in a bow at the end. Not everything with Libby was tied up at the end of the book -which I found surprisingly unpredictable. Yes, there was a happy ending of course - and I would not have wanted it any other way.(Getting an early release copy through Prime is in no way tied to a promise of writing a review.)

In first person narrative she tells us her story with chattiness, depth and underlying humor. Diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, she thinks life for her might soon be: "Eat, Pray, DIE.” Then she faces another upset when her husband confesses his “truth” to her. Libby faces personal devastation--yet from her journey we learn resilience and “REAL LIFE.”Libby no longer has the positive outlook that her brother Paul described: "But for you, Libby, the whole world is filled with kittens and rainbows and happy endings. It's very cute and probably helps you sleep at night. I just worry about you sometimes." Now Libby thinks, "I'd taken a wrong turn at happy and run smack-dab into a dead end." I felt “inside” Libby as she copes with her breaking-apart life. What does she decide to do? Sell everything—go traveling--find a meaningful answer, perhaps.Libby is a person we cheer for and laugh with even as she brings tears to our eyes. This book is an EASY READ on the surface, yet Libby's narration, memories, hopes and fears are far from easy to gloss over. Personally, I love this character; she is real to me. I think many readers of this PERSONAL NOVEL will feel the same. The author’s writing skills are superb, heart-to-heart, yet no wasted words.

I've been a avid reader of nearly every genre, from fluff to serious novels all my life, but one thing I can't stand is poor writing. I've given up on many, many books because the author just couldn't cobble together more than a few good sentences or had a decent first couple of chapters then went awry, especially in this day of e-publishing. Fortunately this is not one of those books. The premise was ok, the writing was ok, the book kept my attention for the entire evening it took to read, but I had problems with some of the main character's actions, especially related to her (soon to be) ex-husband's reveal. And especially in the light of her twin brother's situation. My other problem with this book was how everything was neatly tied in a bow in the end.But if you can't find a fluffy book that holds your attention, I'd recommend this. It's good enough.

Jack "Preacher" Prior is at a crossroads -- literally. Left for dead in the Badlands, he's managed to survive. He's stolen a truck, but where can he go? Body broken, mind reeling from betrayal from his own MC brothers, he knows he won't last a day back in Rapid City in his current condition. Two roads stretch out in front of him. One leads to the city and one deep into the black hills where no one knows him as the former President of the Badlands Buzzards. Revenge is not a question; it's an absolute. Preacher will get his due soon enough or die trying. Erin Walker is at a crossroads of her own. Dealt a bad hand by being the daughter of Buck Walker, ex-Rodeo Champ, she's made her own way in the world without his help. She's not giving it up without a fight, but she's alone in the world with no one to trust. In Erin, Preacher finds something that doesn't exist in his own world: a smart, fierce independent woman who sets his blood on fire. For Erin, the mysterious man who threatens her life might very well be the only one who can save it. Can Preacher put aside his desire for revenge against his old MC and accept what's in front of him: a woman who needs him and a future worth having? Erin knows in her heart that Preacher is a bad, dangerous man, but can she trust him anyway? Not every choice is theirs to make, though, and in Rapid City the past never stays buried.

35 of 35 people found the following review helpful. Preacher was worth every minute I waited to get my greedy hands on him. By Amazon Customer I’ll start with the obligatory “I received a free ACR in return for an honest review*side note* It is absolutely not a requirement to have read the Burnout or Stark Inc series to understand or enjoy Preacher, but it would probably be really fun if you did.Preacher.What can you really say about Preacher? Well a lot actually but not without telling the entire story and ruining every heart wrenching, exasperating and thrilling moment. If you are a fan of Dahlia West, you are familiar with Shooter, which means you know all about getting Slick off the bus/doing Shooter a “favor” by bringing him back his “house mouse’’ scene. Which was by far my favorite Preacher moment (until now). Don’t ask why just go with it. This means that if you’re anything like me you have also been not so patiently waiting for a chance at Preacher’s story. And if you are like me each time that Preacher was mentioned you got down on your knees and prayed to whatever muse Dahlia uses that she found the inspiration and wrote Preacher’s story. I mean really he’s a man of mystery. We don’t ever truly get a lot of back ground on him so we’re intrigued. This brings me to now. Now I know the truth. Jack “Preacher” Prior is an ice for blood in his veins man. He gets played by his own people, left to die, takes a hostage (does a really bad job at that) disposes of bodies, lies, cheats, steals and then ends up where? On a farm, with a Rooster that’s a ninja pimp, a dog as his sidekick, a stallion with an agenda and Erin. Erin who is good and clean and honest and just wants a chance to prove that she can do it and doesn’t need a man to take care of her (cliché I know but it fits this story I promise). She is as fearless as Jack is damaged, and as open as he is closed off. Because he doesn’t think he deserves what she is offering, he doesn’t even know how to give back a little bit of what she is offering him. But see that’s the power a good (that’s an important word there) woman has. Men say “they can’t” (and Jack sure did A LOT) and women say “Yes you can, you’re an idiot”. And despite everything she has given him, he just can’t because he still doesn’t want to believe that he is deserving of anything good and sweet and clean. So no in retrospect Jack really doesn’t deserve the second chance that seems to be right in front of him. He doesn’t deserve a good, honest woman to sink into at night. He certainly doesn’t deserve a chance to fall asleep with both eyes closed and sleep deep. He doesn’t deserve a chance to have dreams and memories of and with a good women and a future, because his past just won’t leave him alone. And until his past is just a fading memory he won’t get a second chance. So, as I say in all my 5star reviews, go do yourself a favor, One-click Preacher. Get the story of the boy who became the man who held Rapid City in his hands, and in two defining moments lost it not once but twice. Read about the man who isn’t looking for redemption, he knows he is beyond it and the one women who might be just more stubborn than him for believing he deserves it and that she deserves him.

He was the childhood friend of Shooter (book 1 of the series) so you just knew that if Shooter once liked him that there had to be potential for a decent man to emerge. In this story, Preacher's life as head of the Buzzard's crime ring comes to an abrupt halt when he is betrayed by power hungry underlings. Against the odds, he survives the treachery and burns for revenge. Only something unexpected happens. He ends up on a horse rehabilitation ranch run by a caring, but strong woman. She teaches him another way of life and slowly shows him the possibility for a different future, if he wants a different life. But Preacher's old life isn't one he can simply walk away from...so he has to find a way out if he wants a future with her. And the way out is fraught with danger and deadly peril.I loved this book. I loved he first book, Shooter. The subsequent books, Tex, Easy, etc....were a big let down. This is the first one that lives up to Shooter. The love story evolves over time. She's a strong woman, but she can't make it on her own. She needs a strong man who can handle the predators in her life. He's a bad man, he's never learned gentleness or been free from the constant threat of violence. He's steeped in aggression and violence...it's all he's ever known. She exposes him to a new way of living, giving him hope for a future, a real future. Loved it.

This latest from Ms. West is actually a 5 plus star book!We met Preacher in some of her previous books in her Burnout series. This book gives us an indepth look into this complex character. Preacher has had a life full of despair and violence but when he's drugged, beaten and left for dead in the Badlands, he comes back to life so to speak and evolve into a person that is so much more than even he thought possible. He meets a strong, smart woman named Erin who shows him that there is another side to life than fighting everyone around him to survive. This can be a stand alone book, however it will be more enjoyable if the reader reads Ms. West's Burnout series first or at least her book Shooter. Many of her characters from previous books make appearances in this book and her previous books will give the reader a much better understanding of them and how their shared pasts with Preacher help to round out his character.I really loved this book and highly recommend it to any reader that is looking for a good drama filled read.

The riveting follow-up to the New York Times bestselling The 5th Wave, hailed by Justin Cronin as “wildly entertaining.”   How do you rid the Earth of seven billion humans? Rid the humans of their humanity. Surviving the first four waves was nearly impossible. Now Cassie Sullivan finds herself in a new world, a world in which the fundamental trust that binds us together is gone. As the 5th Wave rolls across the landscape, Cassie, Ben, and Ringer are forced to confront the Others’ ultimate goal: the extermination of the human race. Cassie and her friends haven’t seen the depths to which the Others will sink, nor have the Others seen the heights to which humanity will rise, in the ultimate battle between life and death, hope and despair, love and hate.  Praise for The Infinite Sea  “Heart-pounding pacing, lyrical prose and mind-bending twists . . .”—The New York Times Book Review “Impressively improves on the excellent beginning of the trilogy.”—USA Today “An epic sci-fi novel with all the romance, action, and suspense you could ever want.”—Seventeen.com *“This gut-wrenching sequel to The 5th Wave careens on a violent course of nonstop action.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review *“A breathless, grueling survival story . . . . The Infinite Sea: The Second Book of the 5th Wave, by Rick Yancey

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—The majority of the first-person narration in this second book in "The 5th Wave" series (Putnam) shifts between Ringer, a beautiful teen with deadly aim, and tough-but-tender Cassie, who thought she was the lone surviving human. A third-person viewpoint is used for Evan, an alien who has shifted his allegiance in the face of true love and Ben (Zombie), badly injured but still in command of the ragtag paramilitary group of creatively nicknamed children and teens. The action springs back and forth in place and time as readers learn why Poundcake no longer speaks, how Evan is related to super-strong Grace, and why chess is important to Ringer. The "infinite sea" can be made of snow, of tears, of the floaty feeling of semi-consciousness, and, more than once, it is a sea of blood. Yancey keeps the pressure on, as Cassie and Ben seek to protect the younger humans and outsmart the devious Silencers. Ringer struggles to maintain her humanity in the face of nanotechnology and Evan struggles with turning his back on what his species has been working toward for thousands of years. Yancey's writing can be melodramatic ("The world will be consumed by the crushing dark"; "The Others didn't invent death; they just perfected it"), but will keep action-craving readers enthralled. With a 5th Wave movie in the works, and alien questions left unanswered, expect readers to be interested in this series for the foreseeable future.—Maggie Knapp, Trinity Valley School, Fort Worth, TX

Wish they had the option of 3 1/2.The "Infinite Sea" suffers under the curse of the sequel. The second in a series is always the weakest link. This felt much more disappointing than usual because "The 5th Wave" was, without a doubt, one of the best sci-fi books I've read. You fell in the love with the characters, especially Cassie & Evan (and yes, they fell in love with each other). The book was never trite or tiresome or meandering. It was just a great read.So how did this second in the series fail in comparison with the first?First, there is not enough Cassie and Evan. They essentially become secondary characters in this book. We barely hear from them or about them. Instead, the focus shifts to other characters, especially Ringer. The problem is our heart is with Cassie. I really wanted the story to stay with her (primarily). I have no problem with a fleshing out of secondary characters like Ringer, but I just don't want to read a whole (or even half) book about her.Second, this book became much too convoluted and confusing story-wise. Always the most successful stories are the simplest. The story of bad aliens come to earth to wipe out the humans by something akin to invasion of the body snatchers (the implants really being the first wave against the humans) was simple, but extremely engaging and well-written.This second book was much too confusing, especially about the implants. Yes, I realize the point was to bring the reader to a place that the characters found themselves in - you can trust no one, because who is really the good guys and who the bad? You just don't know.I just felt like this was not done successfully. Instead I came away baffled by what was really going on and not feeling particularly satisfied. And Vosch's continual cryptic questions to Ringer about who was good and bad (and Ringers equally cryptic, esoteric, almost metaphysical responses) just became an irritation after awhile. This didn't create mystery for me, just bewilderment and frustration. I wanted to scream: "Just tell the girl what she needs to know already!"And the incredibly convoluted tests Vosch sets for Ringer were not believable to me. And why her? What makes her so special as opposed to Cassie or anyone else on the alien base?Third, the writing just wasn't as engaging in this second book. You can't just stick opposites together (such as someone feeling both a frozen heart and a burning soul at the same time, blah blah) and expect to gain depth of character and story-telling. This happened over and over in the book. A few times I can handle, but not when it becomes a literary device that the author resorts to on a frequent basis.Am I waiting for the third book? Of course. I loved the 1st book much to much to not finish this series. So if you feel similarly, you will just have to slog it through this second book and hope Mr. Yancey comes around again to his brilliant writing for the third.

Of rats and rocks and chess pieces and promises: a fantastic part two in a great trilogy By QueenKatieMae Rick Yancy's The 5th Wave series envisions the world after aliens known only as the Others attack. Silent and unseen, the Others watched the humans for ten thousand years before their invasion that slaughtered over 7 billion people through pestilence and coastal destruction, leaving them without food, electricity, medicine and with little hope. Small pockets of people are left to fend for themselves when the Others begin to hunt them down, murdering them and spiriting away their small children. The 5th Wave of the invasion is the worst of them all: the Others have taken over human bodies leaving people suspicious and fearful of one another, trusting no one. But then one human girl falls in love with an alien boy...The second novel, The Infinite Sea, picks up almost immediately after the end of the The 5th Wave. Cassie, mourning the loss of Evan Walker who has been missing since they blew up the alien base, is holed up in an abandoned motel with young refugees from the Others' internment camp. Led by Zombie, the jock from Cassie's high school, the small group of children and teens must make a decision: wait for Evan, as he promised Cassie he would always find her, or head south for the winter. Although Cassie has never trusted her, Ringer volunteers to recon the area before they make a final decision. Cassie even feels a bit of teenage envy toward the intelligent and highly competent soldier-girl. Silly, but very human.Through flashbacks, the reader learns more about the silent Poundcake, Ringer's father, and Evan Walker's life before the invasion. We do find out what happened to Evan Walker after the explosion. And, the best part of all, Ringer becomes even more badass than the last book. I know a lot of fans questioned (and complained) why so much of the book revolved around Ringer, but what happens to her in this book helps answer some, only some, of the mysteries concerning the aliens and their reason for attacking earth. And, it sets up the third book for a magnificent showdown between humans and aliens. This second book of the trilogy does not focus on the Cassie/Evan love story like the first and, initially, I missed that angle. Instead, Yancy expands his tale to give Ringer a bigger role, which, by the end of the book, makes total sense. Yes, if humans are ever able to conquer the aliens, the world is going to need inspiring couples like Cassie and Evan to spread hope to those who survive. But for now, warriors like Ringer and Zombie are necessary to bring about that change. While the first book was largely focused on love, The Infinite Sea is about war; dirty, unspeakable war that uses children as soldiers and bombs.I absolutely love this series. Yancy is a creative writer with a poetic flair that really shines in this book. He gives his characters genuine identities that illuminate all that which makes us human: fear, love, anger, trust, and hope. The reader cares about what happens to this ragtag group and cheers them on and falls in love with them. I pre-ordered this book the second it was available and I will definitely pre-order the third.Enjoy!

Not Quite The Story I Was Expecting By Jen | Jenuine Cupcakes I went into THE INFINITE SEA wanting to know one thing: WHAT HAPPENED TO EVAN WALKER BECAUSE HOLY FREAKING ALIENS EVERYWHERE THE ENDING OF THE FIFTH WAVE WAS LIKE...WHAT EVEN?!Actually, I had a few other unanswered questions too, but still. Evan. I needed to know what happened to him.I expected THE INFINITE SEA to pick up where THE FIFTH WAVE left off, with Cassie anxious to find out what happened to Evan, and figuring out how to save humanity. So you can imagine my surprise when that didn't happen. In fact, the story opens with Ringer, a character I barely remembered from book one and honestly, didn't care all that much about. My bad. Because we end up spending 70% of the book with her.Yes, we find out what happened to Evan.Eventually.And yes, we catch up with Cassie, Ben, Sam, Poundcake and Dumbo. But if you go into this expecting some kind of epic humalien reunion with lots of romance and lots of kissing, well---good luck with that.As with THE FIFTH WAVE, there are multiple POVs that not only alternate between characters but switch tense too. (You risk getting lost if you aren't paying attention.) The action is sporadic and the intensity doesn't kick up until about the halfway mark. But even then it doesn't last long. We do find out what's really going on with Vosch and the Others, but only after wading through copious amounts of superfluous information and metaphors that employ the title of the book which was far more confusing than it was helpful. And then there was the moment that won the award for Most Creative Escape Tactic Ever. And by creative, I mean, I just threw up in my mouth a little bit. That was followed by a sequence of events that confused me even more--are we really doing this or is this just another metaphor for humanity because I can't really tell--and made me question what in the Hades these characters were thinking?!And then it was over.Finished.Done.As with Rick Yancey's other works, the writing in THE INFINITE SEA is impeccable, but the characters weren't as engaging as they were in THE FIFTH WAVE. I was also under the impression that this was a duology, but apparently, a third book is in the works. Good thing too, because while I am EXTREMELY grateful to have had the chance to read this early, I am frustrated. I feel like this was a filler book with parts that could have been included in book one or cut altogether, and now I'm right back where I started.Again.

Re-edited for 2016 Desirae is what can only described as a bad chick. She has the body, the personality, and the skill to basically have any kind of man that she wants. For a few months, however, she has been playing the side chick role to Tron. She is there for him even more than his own girlfriend is, and will do anything that he needs to keep him happy. However, soon enough, Desirae will go on a rollercoaster of emotions where she learns that this simply will not be enough. On this ride, she will learn that Tron is not what she thought he was while also learning just how strong his commitment to his chick is. Several explosive scenarios will send separate words colliding into one another, putting everyone involved to the test. No matter what, though, Desirae is the one who winds up paying the biggest price… Disclaimer: This book contains sexually explicit content and language which is only suitable for people over the age of 18.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Novel 1 By Amazon Customer This series has 6 books. The story line drags on throughout the books. There is several instances throughout each book of redundancy. The series also has incidence of wrong person listed for the narrative written. The book could have surely been just a 2 book series at most. There are moments where you are shaking your head at the pure ridiculousness of the actions of the characters. Desirae had a difficult time letting go of Tron, Tron made poor choices that led to his loss of love and credibility of his business, Tyrese is a man whore and never seems to develop a mature relationship with anyone, and Reece was a woman who had questionable morals though she is painted as a good-girl. The book does showcase that poor decision making in relationships is not limited to youth. Shawna and Nalique were the two characters who illuminated women who had high self-esteem and were willing to make tough decisions in love, even when they made a violent mistake in allowing their emotion to get out of hand. If you have KindleUnlimited and can read all 6 for free...do so... FOR FREE.

Side Chick Mentality By fitgirl4ever The storyline is good ,there were some grammatical errors however I won't complain because I got to read this book for free. While the author was able to hold my attention there is no way this book should have been drawn out to a four part series. I may purchase book 2 since the first book was free but I'm not paying for a total of 3 series. Doesn't take a genius to come up with any kind of ending you as the reader would like. I really wish the authors would cool it with these several series. Let it be 1 or even 2 @ best but these 3 & 4 series are overkill.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. don't bother By Katie The worst book I have ever attempted to read! The dialog is poorly written and ignorant. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

Welcome to Redmondsburg. You’re just gonna love it here! From the tall statue of Hank Redmond - the founder of the town - in Pheasant Park, to the local eateries and historic library over on Whipple Avenue. Main Street is literally gorged with quaint antique emporiums and locally owned trinket shops! You’ll be so busy soaking in the small town atmosphere that you won’t even mind the smell emanating from somewhere south of town. There’s nothing of any interest happening at Lakeshore Cemetery, and there are no strange or repulsive odors. In fact, forget I even mentioned it. Dead means dead in Redmondsburg. We promise. The Mayor, currently campaigning for re-election, is a friendly sort. He isn’t bent on sacrificing an innocent on Halloween in order to bind with an ancient and unholy power. Nope, not him. His little dog isn’t a bloodthirsty demon. Of course not! It’s perfectly safe here. You’re just gonna love it! We all do. Oh – and if you see someone that looks dead or something, it’s probably the flu. It definitely wouldn’t be a zombie. Because that would just be stupid.

I actually got it free (thank you kebooks.com) and got it for my son. I'm glad I read it first. (He's 29, I didn't read it to be sure he is old enough.) This is just chock full of wonderful characters, apart from the zombies, and humor too. Absolutely loved this book. Indeed, so much I am getting the sequel - and will get all of Brain's books - new favorite author. Evan if you hate zombie books, as I do, get this. Totally worth reading. Highly recommended. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Stretching One's Mind's Eye By S. Tucker I've loved the trilogy and have read as well as listened to all three on CD. Great world that Deborah Harkness has created in them. Now as to the Reading Companion, I do like the comments and photos---however, I have a pretty clear notion of all the residences and interiors of her world, so seeing what she saw when she was writing is a real perk. My mind's eye has them looking fairly on point with the reality.Such a good endeavor---love it!

Goodrich, Author of Patriots Cause A perfect companion book and travel guide through All souls Trilogy. Love the details and historical references. Enhances an already phenomenal series.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Book disappointing. By Deanna B. Flanders This book was disappointing. It appeared to me to be just a follow up to capitalise on the series. I loved the series and hoped this would be a good way to explain or continue the magic of the series. I was wrong.

128 of 131 people found the following review helpful. Yummy! By Angela Grindle Ella Summers knows how to get your pulse up and your imagination going. I get so lost in the fantasy that I can see the story. Summers weaves a tale that is both beautiful and mesmerizing. When the day gets overwhelming, I pick up her book and get lost in the tale that is spellbinding. I enjoyed Alex as much as Sera and I can't wait for the next book!

20 of 22 people found the following review helpful. Pretty good By Amazon Customer This book was a solid 3 stars for me. It was a quick and easy read and kept me engaged to the end. So why only a 3? Description was lacking. I had no idea how old Alex was until around chapter 7 (and it's only a guess at 20). There's not a lot of physical description of either Alex or Logan (other than Logan's eyes are green). World building was also a little lacking. Why did supernaturals come out of hiding? Why was an assassin after her and her sister if eveyone thinks they are human? More background on when Alex and Logan first met. Perhaps some of this is covered in Sera's story, but Ms. Summers claims this is a stand alone series, so I shouldn't have to find the answers in a different one. Either way, I was entertained enough that I will read the next book.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Like her twin sister Sera By dora la exploradora Like her twin sister Sera, Alex was a dragon born who hunted down the city's misbehaving supernatural and also, she had to keep her magic concealed from the Magic Council. But, unlike her sister Sera, Alex was a stubborn and reckless woman always looking for trouble. When supernatural activity increased and somebody began to steal the magic symbols of the supernatural, the Orbs, Alex was called to the action. Her skills as a monster killer were needed because someone wanted to annihilate every supernatural in the city. The famous Paranormal Vigilante, known as Black Plage in the supernatural world, needed to find the Orbs and bring them back to safety. She was paired with Marek, a mage and dragon summoner but Marek was not the one to help her on the task. No. It was an assassin, The Slayer, as unbelievable as it seemed. Could Alex trust him? Could she control her magic? Like in Dragon Born Serafina, this book has monsters, mages, vampires and a lot of supernatural that our heroina had to fight. But, Alex was impulsive, mouthy and didn't know how to control her magic neither what else she could do with it. In this story Alex had more interesting male characters around her and her inner voice continually made amusing comments. I was almost worried by her inner talking. The story had action, much violence, intrigue, no sex in here, only a little making out. There was some mystery and the book ended in a crucial moment so, we have to wait for the second book to know what happened. Enjoyed the book, liked the characters and the plot. This sister was totally different and non-predictable so, more interesting. Love these books. Received the ARC for an honest review.
