Amazon.com Review Setting: Regency England

Sensuality: 7

Penelope Featherington fell madly, hopelessly in love with Colin Bridgerton two days before her 16th birthday. Unfortunately, Colin has always seen Penelope as the plump, shy best friend of his younger sister. By the time Penelope is 28 and a seasoned member of the English ton, she's accepted that her love for Colin is destined to remain unrequited and she shall be a spinster forever. Fate, however, has other plans. When Lady Whistledown's Society Papers announce that Colin has returned from his nearly nonstop travels, Penelope is blissfully unaware that her life is about to change dramatically. Colin is equally unaware of the turn his life is about to take. He's not surprised that his beloved mother is determined to marry him off, but he's rather astonished to find himself inexplicably drawn to Penelope. Her dry wit and intelligent mind are delightful, and Colin soon finds himself joining forces with her to deflect his matchmaking mama's good intentions. Together, the two will thwart their mothers' iron wills, face the formidable Lady Danbury, confront the gossips of London society, and resolve the lovely dilemma of falling in love. And, oh yes, there is that matter of the true identity of Lady Whistledown. Will the twosome unmask the elusive journalist? Or will their efforts be doomed to failure like so many others' before?

Romancing Mr. Bridgerton continues author Julia Quinn's wildly popular series of Regency historicals featuring the Bridgerton family, The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, and An Offer from a Gentleman. True, the novel possesses all that we've come to expect from Quinn, including deft plotting, witty repartee, a faultless Regency setting, and expert characterization. But perhaps the book's most pleasing facet is Quinn's quietly nuanced handling of the hero's and the heroine's internal growth, which is furthered by their blooming relationship. They're two strong individuals made stronger by their bond. Now that's love. --Lois Faye Dyer

Review "'Reminiscent of Helen Fielding' TIME Magazine 'Wise, witty and oh so delightful, Julia Quinn is truly our contemporary Jane Austen' Jill Barnett 'Thoroughly enchanting...it's pure fun to step into her world' ROMANTIC TIMES"

74 of 77 people found the following review helpful. the best in the series so far, I thought By tregatt Sometimes, when an authour gets tied to a series, the later books become formulaic and a little boring. Fortunately, this was not the case with Julia Quinn's latest romance novel, "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton." This latest installment about the Bridgerton siblings was well worth the wait (I think that it took slightly more than a year for this novel to be published), and is, I think, the best book in the series so far. This novel is a wonderful mixture of romance, poignancy and whimsy. I fairly devoured the book, and was quite saddened to have finished it so quickly. I was also left with the fervent wish that there were more novels like this one out there for me to read.Miss Penelope Featherington has been in love with her best friend's elder brother, Colin Bridgerton, ever since she was sixteen. Unfortunately, Penelope is not a raving beauty, or a gregarious, charming wit. Somewhat quiet and shy (and a little plump), Penelope is the sort of young lady that fades into the woodwork, and not at all the type to cause Colin's senses to swim. The years pass (about 12 to be exact) and Penelope has resigned herself to both remaining a spinster and having her love remain unrequited, when Colin Bridgerton, who has taken to traveling extensively in order to escape his managing mother's attempts to marry him off, returns from Cyprus. Now, Penelope sees Colin almost everyday, and at every social do. She discovers that she is as deeply in love with him now as she was all those years ago, and wishes fervently that she was the kind of woman who could ensnare his affections. However the Colin who came back is also slightly different -- restless, bored and a little discontented with the manner in which his life in unfolding. And while Penelope enjoys the time that they spend together, she cannot help but wonder how long she will be able to continue hiding her love for him? After having spent so many years abroad, Colin Bridgerton returns to England, hoping to find something that will chase this ennui away. Who would have believed that his thoughts would be full of shy, quiet Penelope Featherington? And that he would enjoy her intelligence and dry wit to such an extent? Somehow, Penelope touches him in a manner that no other woman has before. And he finds himself wanting to protect her from the cruel and careless ways of the ton. His deep affection for Penelope, however soon begins to disturb him. Could he be falling in love with his sister's best friend? And does he even want to be in love?Reading "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" made me understand why so many other readers rave about Julia Quinn's talents. This was an entirely delightful and appealing read. I loved the manner in the authour made this novel to unfold. Julia Quinn took great pains to first allow for Penelope's and Colin's friendship to be reestablished by allowing them to have some really meaningful conversations, where they actually discuss things (like his boredom and her unhappiness over always being on the fringes of things), before she eased them into a romance. Ever so often, the hero and heroine barely share a thought before they begin their rather erotic encounters. So that it was a treat to have Penelope and Colin talk, and not about politics and social issues either. I also liked that although Penelope has loved Colin forever, she doesn't simply nod her head and agree with him on everything under the sun. Penelope has her own opinions. And even when she senses that her thoughts may not be the ones that Colin wants to hear, she doesn't shirk from sharing them with him. This is one romance that is, I think, really going to stand the test of time."Romancing Mr. Bridgerton" was a truly wonderful read about unspoken dreams and love. Mostly, however, eventhough this is a Bridgerton novel, this is a book that is actually all about Penelope -- about what life is like for a spinster who never 'took' and about the dreams and desires she never expected to be fulfilled. I found this novel to be an outstanding one, and one that was definitely worth treasuring.

He never paid much attention to her and she knew that she could never have a man like him. She wasnt beautiful by society's standards and she was just a tad chubby when she was introduced to society in order to gain a husband. Unfurtunately, no one looked her way and Colin only danced with her in those balls out of pitty, and because his mother order him to (and you dont mess with Lady Bridgerton). 10 years later Penelope is 28 and used to the idea that she's a spinster and she will remain so. Colin has barely seen her in those 10 years since he spends too much time traveling, but when he returns he sees a different Penelope, because she is slowly starting to speak her mind instead of being so quiet as she used to. There's much more to the story. The plot is so entertaining I skipped a study session for a final so i could keep reading the book. I simply loved everything, the characters are well written, the plot is great, the dialogue is fantastic as well as funny and tender. In short this is my favorite JQ book! Highly recomend it! Plus there's a very interesting surprise as well! and Lady Whistledown is more superb than usual!

Rondeau I waited forever for this book because I've read all of the others in this series and have been dying to know who Lady Whistledown truly was. You will find out if you read this book, but not from me!Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton since she was 16 and now she is heading towards spinsterhood at eight and twenty. Colin has been abroad and has come home from his latest jaunt. In that time, Penelope still loves Colin but has little hope that he will ever notice her as anything other than his sister Eloises' best friend.Lady Whistledown can't seem to write columns without mentioning the very available and nice Colin Bridgerton - evidently nothing has changed since he left - or has it. The girl who was like a part of his family, now haunts his dreams. Could this be love? This is one of Julia Quinn's classic love stories with her trademark humourous dialog. A charming story, and the mystery of Lady Whistledown, finally revealed! I never guessed it!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good Series!! By D. Burgamy Book 1 - Jenna meets Kellen when he comes to her house to see her father. She is 13, he is 17. He is in trouble and her lawyer father helps him, sees the troubled boy, the good in him and wants to keep him on the right path. He is a product of the foster system, having lost his mother at a young age. He doesn’t see himself as anything good and will not take charity. He and Jenna connect as he tutors her. He idolizes her father and sees his life as a path to take. He is attracted to Jenna’s sister Laney who is the exact replica of her mother. They date off and on for years with Jenna watching her best friend be miserable with her sister. They just don’t work together and they both know it. She is devastated when he proposes to Laney, knowing he is not happy, not living the life he should be. He has gone to college and is becoming a lawyer like her dad, what Laney wants him to be instead of who he truly is, a boxer at heart. In New York picking out wedding dresses they are in a terrible accident. Kellen is in a coma for weeks but once he is out of it he realizes he is living a lie and sets about changing that. Trying to make things right, to be with the one woman he truly loves, he breaks up with Laney. He takes his time, gives it months, trying to be a friend to Jenna, trying to allow her and her sister to be ok and trying therapy to heal his soul to become what he needs to be which isn’t a lawyer. This book spans about 10 years and is pretty slow to get to the true couple. It is intense, excellent writing and ends with a proposal.Book 2 – Kellens POV. You see his side of everything. His love of boxing, his trying to make himself better but loosing himself in the process. His torturous relationship with Laney. When he starts to see Jenna as a woman and not a child. His love for her. His demons and anxiety attacks. Laneys betrayal of Kellen and his accident. He knows he is on a path he is not happy with but can’t seem to get himself out of. He finds out who is father really is and the fact he has been putting money into a bank account for him all his life. He also has to deal with the fact his mother knew about this money but still let him fall into the foster system after her death. This explains how he has things like an apartment with no apparent job in book one. Through hard work, therapy and his drive to become and EMT/Fireman everything starts to fall into place to have a true relationship with Jenna. The book ends with them heading to Ireland to find his family.Book 3 - This backs up about 4 month from the 2nd book. Kellen is still fighting his demons from his childhood. The sexual abuse that doesn’t allow him to stay in the moment with any woman. This hurts Jenna, his “leaving” and he finally opens up to his therapist to work through the past. We find out more about his life in foster care. He buys Jenna an engagement ring and is waiting to get a full time job as a firefighter. In the airport he proposes right before they leave for Ireland. In Ireland he meets his mother’s family but it doesn’t give him the closure he needs. Meanwhile Laney has found herself pregnant and engaged to the same man she had the affair with while engaged to Kellen. She is still giving them a hard time about their being together even knowing she and Kellen never loved each other. Kellen goes to Vegas to box in a championship bout and finally meets his father. He finds out his father isn’t the bad guy he had made him out to be. He is devastated over it and his mother’s decisions. He has decided this is his last fight. He wins the fight however Jenna has to leave and go back home due to Laney collapsing and loosing the baby. This devastation seems to change her into a better person and helps everyone to move forward. Jenna’s shop starts to do better and Kellen get the job he has been waiting for. They buy a fixer upper house, take in a stray dog and finally marry on the beach. Kellen has come a long way and is finally truly happy in his life and moving forward from his past. This is a very good series!

Here's just little parts of the 5 star reviews I've left.Knockout,"This is a beautiful story. Jenna and Kellen become best friends when she's 13 and he's 17. The story then follows their intertwined lives for the next 9 or 10 yrs.""The emotions they go through are just so powerful that I felt what they felt and I just wanted them to realize they belong together."Brawler,"Tracey does an amazing job of telling the story from Kellen's side. It also explained so much more of how it all happened."Ringside,"We finally get to see Jenna and Kellen be together. Although it's not as easy as it should be.""The ending couldn't have been more perfect. There really aren't alot of writers that can make me cry both from sorrow and laughter but Tracey sure manages to time after time."

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Interesting read By Kat THis is sooooo not my genre. I mean like fighters but I hate coming of age. I don't like teenagers. And yeah so I keep that in mind with my review.I was skeptical at first because I don't like that gig where you get one point of view in one book and reread the entire story in another book. What makes it work with this series is that these folks spend so much time apart that you really do get a couple distinct stories in those first two books. And then in the third book you're kind of along for the ride on how this all pans out.I liked reading about the struggle they had for years. It was interesting to me to see how they perceived their situations.

More depth than a typical cozy By FrankiRN I've been reading a lot of "cozy" mysteries/stories over the past year, mostly because there are so darned many of them, and I have to tell you that I've had mixed reviews. They are typically very light hearted and fun, but not many have been very well written and most have the feel of a new author. This is NOT the case for the Harley Hill mysteries. I was so happy to find a new series in which I could get into the books, care about the characters, and that also has great editing (Poor editing/grammar is a pet peeve of mine. Has ruined many a novel for me). Harley is young and fun, and her friendship with Cordelia is definitely worth exploring. And you have to love a mystery with a cat, right? Dive in, you'll love it.

I love to read "cozy" mysteries. True to form, these mysteries are not overshadowed with vulgar language and explicit sex scenes. They are great " Who done it?" mysteries. There is also the ongoing " mystery within a mystery" throughout the series. Why was Samantha a.k.a. Harley left in foster care when she was 2 years old? Who and where are her siblings? What does the mysterious note "I'm always with you." on the back of the only photo of her with her siblings mean? Who wrote that note? Where have they been all her life? Well....a small clue to these mysteries is doled out one at a time at the end of each book. They aren't true "cliffhangers", but they are a great "hook" to get you to read the next book. I admit, I'm going fishing for the next one right now!

Eden's Ore - Secrets, by B.V. Bayly

Review The world that B. V. Bayly creates is really intriguing and the futuristic technology that is described has been really well thought through, which makes the story that much more believable and immersive. The characters were similar in this respect, which, when combined, made for a really good read - OnlineBookClub.org The concept of Eden's ore and the meaning behind the name, the uses and misuses of the ore, the human torture in the name of saving mankind, the groups of people involved to discover the secrets of the ores- the gangsters, the involvement of the church, scientists & their experiments, the government's involvement; negative and positive uses of the ores, secret labs... WOW!! I felt like I was either reading a Dan Brown novel or watching a James Bond movie. I feel B.V. Bayly is the upcoming Dan Brown in the field of sci-fi writings. - Crazy Bibliophile! What a great read! I was hooked from the beginning. The author set the scene and pace very quickly but left time to develop the characters very well. I had a hard time putting this book down. It had a very original idea and was a fantastic and enthralling story from start to finish. I can't wait to read more from B.V. Bayly - Book NuttersI'd recommend this Sci-Fi/Fantasy & even fans of YA. There's everything from action, discovery, science and a bit of a mystery. If that's not enough, the main character makes the story highly enjoyable and I found myself rooting for him. - The Reader's Hollow

From the Author This is the beginning of an amazing series. I dream of seeing hundreds of thousands of people enjoy my story. I wanted to make it that way so there would be no barrier for anyone to experience my world. Please share it, and encourage others to do the same.Welcome to my world. BVB

Thanks to YA Buddy Reader's Corner !This review was originally posted on Goodreads. Also, by my reviewing standards, this book rated 1 star)Oh boy, how I've struggled with this one ! I've never met a more annoying set of characters, I don't even know where to start. Maybe by the several things that bothered me throughout the whole story ?I feel like the characters aren't fleshed out enough. In the end, we know so very little about them. Despite everything, not enough time was spent on them as characters. There's also the fact that Gabriel is so annoying during, at least, a good 80% of the book. The thing that bothered me the most though is how casual and jaded he is about the whole ore-thing in the beginning. He's not even a little bit curious, he's just content lounging in his brother's apartment, letting his brother do all the work, and asking about what his brother found just as he would ask for the weather report in Taiwan ! I mean, it's not like the whole thing is happening to him, it's not like, if he takes into account everything he knows about ore, he's probably going to die because of the giant crystal embedded in his chest ! There's also a lot of, in my opinion, useless back and forth between Gabriel and Adin. They keep arguing about the same things, repeating the same stuff. It doesn't move the plot along, and it makes you feel like you're stuck on repeat. I also feel like the different POVs weren't necessary, especially Dr Cymru and Nate.On the whole, I think the idea was interesting, but the execution was really clumsy. It didn't feel finished, in my opinion. I expected a lot more, and I wasn't given anything I might have hoped for.

A fun and light adventure By Jesica Disclaimer: I received an copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest reviewIn a world where the world has advanced technology but can't find ways to sustain the energy needed, the ores are the answer to everyone's prayers. Gabriel's dad is the one that discovered them, and worked in TERA, a powerful organization that makes technology that works on the ores powers. But after the death of his father, Gabriel is raised by his mother and Nate, his father's best friend, while his brother decides to work for TERA to continue his father's legacy. But one night everything changes, and Gabriel realizes that there is way more to the ores that he knows.I really enjoyed this book. It was just what I wanted: A bit futuristic, with some mysterious powers, and good characters. I loved the writing, and some say that it starts slow, but to me, it gave me time to get to know the world, the characters and to connect to the story.I liked Gabriel, he can be a bit immature at times but he's strong, smart (most of the time) and knows what's important. I also liked Nate, and I want to know more about his past. I didn't find them annoying.I liked the story, I didn't find it slow or boring. It did feel a bit... small, but the world develops and expands even more in the second book.

I very much enjoyed reading this book and couldn't put it down. When I rate a book with four stars it means that I really liked it and five stars means it's one of my favorites. I felt like this book was in between.I loved the flow of events and how it all worked together as one. However there were times when I thought it jumped to the next event too quickly, not necessarily in the story, but rather in the writing(but also I've been sick when reading this so that also might partially be me). Otherwise! I thought it was great! This books grabs your attention immediately and holds it throughout the book and keeps you thinking about it when you stop reading, wondering what's going to happen next!I can't wait to read the next one and see the progression of the story as well as the writing! :D

I believe that Anne Hillerman has really captured the flavor and characteristics of her father's characters. Changing the character focus from Leaphorn and Chee to Bernie makes good sense, and Bernie's character is well-developed and continues to develop. The focus on Bernie's mother and sister is an effective vehicle for bringing out the character's thoughts and feelings. Necessarily, Chee and Leaphorn are less-well drawn, but avid readers will still be able to accept them.My major problem is with plot and craftsmanship. Unlike "Spider Woman's Daughter" that had an intricate and well-evolved plot, the plot line in "Rock with Wings" was never really that well developed. The lead-off character with his box of dirt was a MacGuffin for the most part; and the "bad man" behind it all was only portrayed as "bad" in the closing scenes. The plot device of the grave in Monument Valley didn't work for me, as it was a lot of work to build it up to be a controversial and critical component of the story, and then it actually had little or nothing to do with the main plot line in the end. Linking the two issues of the gravesite and the solar panels through the cheezy developer/producer was very weak, especially when it was totally undeveloped except by a passing reference. And finally, the "conversion" of the lead-off character from bad-guy to guy-who-wants-to-go-straight was almost childish.Overall I give this an "average" rating. I enjoyed the writing and the characters as sketched from Tony Hillerman's book, the writing style is very similar and comfortable. As a "who dunnit" though, it really isn't that suspenseful or challenging a story.

41 of 43 people found the following review helpful. Close, but no cigar. By J. F. Thompson Maybe it's just me, but I've read every one of Tony Hillerman's novels, as well as the first one in this continuation series. This second one in the series was very slow to get off the ground with, I thought, the author getting distracted by too many side-stories. Not particularly satisfying.

28 of 29 people found the following review helpful. Hasn't peaked yet By A.D. Hopkins Anne Hillerman is to be saluted for carrying forward the excellent characters developed by her late father -- Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, and Ms. Manuelito. But after reading so many Hillermans, one absolutely knows Jim or his police officer wife are going to get in trouble by not having a firearm handy while doing police business. One knows the villain is going to be some polished white guy. And it takes a long time to get to the end. However, I have seen other authors step into a parent's shoes and eventually fill them very better than the parent did. This is only the second book since she took the helm, and I'm going to buy the third to see if she gets less predictable and livelier.

Dale is happy and loved, completely fulfilled but the season of Christmas is approaching. He's thinking of his kids, of his past, and happy memories. He wants that for his kids. But Christmas isn't a tradition in his new life and the religious aspect is a no go. So Dale doesn't bring up his unhappiness with Keyno because he feels nothing can be done. The Harvest: A Tah'Narian Christmas is about family: Those we are born to and those we choose. Remembering the past and making new memories. Many of the characters from the series show up but of course the children steal the show. A few tongue in cheek comments had me snorting. Nothing like showing aliens what a traditional family Christmas is all about. A wonderful story and on my re-read list. - Dan's WifeCookies and milk .. . . Yes.EDIT: For those not familiar with M A Church's Tah'Narian books, this is a short glimpse in that universe and follows behind the others in the series. If you enjoyed this one, check out the others. The Harvest Taken and The Harvest Journey's End. Excellent series!

We got some more closure, and a view into the future for the young of all our favorite pairs. The chemistry between all the characters, sexual and platonic, is on point and evocative. I enjoyed this short and selfishly wish for more. 5 Stars!

Since then, Terry Goodkind has created an expansive and fascinating world, where Richard and Kahlan are the primary protagonists. This is the first review I have posted to Amazon (ever!) and as an Amazon Prime member, there have been hundreds of products/books/videos/devices that I could have made my first review. As it stands, I could no longer stand on the sidelines when it comes to reviewing the disappointing (AKA abysmal) conclusion to the EPIC series of Richard and Kahlan. My sister (who is 17 years older than me) was nearly as enchanted as I was with this series. After Richard initially ended the series by invoking the power of Orden, Terry Goodkind decided to extend the series for no reason. The Omen Machine, Third Kingdom, and Severed Souls, all left something to be desired for those of us that were fans of books like Faith of the Fallen. Unfortunately, "Warheart" may be the WORST book yet. I hate to say that, and especially after reading "Confessor" which was a palatable conclusion to this series, he decided to create more books for unclear reasons. This book is essentially a caricature of his writing, combining the worst elements in one volume. The overblown explanations, lack of a story, and constant switching between informing virgin readers of the series and satisfying avid fans make this novel an absolute mess.I sadly spent money on this novel, and I am truly disgusted with myself. Out of the over 400 pages, there might be 20 worth reading, especially when compared with the previous works that Terry Goodkind has penned. The best analogy I can come up with is if you happened to be a fan of the Original Star Wars trilogy, Terry Goodkind's latest works are like Jar Jar Binks wrote the conclusion. Enough Said.

I like the fact that the book moved quickly By paul little Well thank goodness that is done and dusted and this time, surely, there are no more reasons to brush through the embers of this burnt out series. So many hours of reading, so much excitement from the first two or three books and then all too much head scratching as fantasy turned to franchised politicking that gave way to repetitive padding.I like the fact that the book moved quickly, that most ends were tied up, that there were not too many issues with chronology as the several thousands of years of history were finally explained in a short story plot told in novel format. Honestly, though, the inability of certain people to stay dead and the sheer quantity of Deus ex machina makes this very tiring to read.As a fan of the series it made sense to read this book and I did get some pleasure from it, but it was a thin gruel when compared to the feast of the earliest volumes.

42 of 48 people found the following review helpful. The End of an Era By Erik Thiel When Terry shared that this novel would be the finale to Richard and Kahlan's story I was filled with sadness. My journey with these characters began back in 2008. I had discovered the show "Legend of the Seeker" and thought it was pretty enjoyable. I decided to check out the book series the show was (loosely) based on. I was blown away by just how much better the story was than the show. I quickly purchased and consumed the entire original "Sword of Truth" box sets, only to be disappointed when there was nothing left. Since then, we've had the release of the four "Richard & Kahlan" novels, the "Law of Nines," and "The First Confessor." I've enjoyed all of those novels, and that brings us to "Warheart."This is what we've been waiting for -- or have we been dreading it? I had mixed emotions as I approached the novel. After spending seven years with these characters, I did not want their story to end (I can only imagine how people who have been with Richard from the very first publication feel).Anyone who invested any amount of time in the journey of Richard and Kahlan should enjoy this novel. Does it speak to me in the same way that "Wizard's First Rule" or "Faith of the Fallen" did? No. Those novels were more of the sprawling, behemoth-type fantasy novels you'd expect to come right out of the 90's. Comparatively, this chapter of the journey is only about half as long as either of those titles. There is just enough time to tie up some loose ends, reunite with beloved characters, and conclude this arc of the story.Where did Richard end up, and is he gone for good? What's happening with prophecy? What is the real endgame for Hannis Arc? All of these questions and more are answered satisfactorily. Yet, for some reason, I was left craving more. I devoured the novel in about five hours, but it left me feeling somewhat empty. Perhaps, though, I just miss the length and expansiveness of the previous entries in the series.All-in-all, "Warheart" concludes the series respectfully enough. I liked the novel, but I wouldn't say I loved it. Recommended for anyone who has kept up with the series since the "Chainfire" trilogy ended.
