By Bill Anderson Length: Print, 348 pages; Audible, not yet available as an audiobook, but would be a bestseller.Target Audience/Genre: This is an Action-Adventure novel targeted to adult fans of James Bond or Jason Bourne. What was the Amazon Rank on the date this review was published? 1,091.Is this a book that I can read without having to read others first? Yes, this is the first in the series. Even though it is a first in the series, this is a stand alone story. Are there a lot of typos/misspellings, grammatical errors or other editing failures? No, very well written and edited. Is this a fast, easy read or is it more of a leisure read? Quick-paced book that kept me riveted. What sort of language does this writer use to amplify the points made? Adult English. F-bombs included, but not terribly frequent. My biggest pleasure or disappointment was the action sequences, especially when the hero applies his skill in marma adi, a martial art originating in southeast India.I’ve included a small excerpt below, so readers can peruse the style of presentation utilized by the author.EXCERPTClyde Rutherford raised his glass first, clearing his voice as the excited chatter ceased and all eyes turned his way. ‘Ladies and gentlemen,’ he announced, ‘let’s show our appreciation for Vice Admiral Charles Hansard!’There were whoops and cheers, and loud applause as Hansard raised his own glass, acknowledging the praise. He let it continue for a few moments before holding up a calming hand, waiting for the applause to finish before he spoke.‘Thank you,’ he said finally. ‘Thank you for your kindness, and thank you for the work you have all put in yourselves. Do not forget that we are all in this together, brothers and sisters striving for a new path for our nation; a better path, a safer path, and certainly a more profitable path.’There was laughter, and he once again held up a hand for calm. ‘But let us not get ahead of ourselves. The first blow may have been struck, but we all know how much further there is to go before any of us can truly celebrate.’ Hansard watched as heads nodded around the room, taking a sip of Dom Perignon ’49 from the flute in his hand. ‘And let me give another toast,’ he continued in a solemn tone, ‘to the memory of Bill Crozier, until so recently one of our own number.’ Hansard saw some of the group open their mouths to object, but he held up a hand again – amazing how so simple an action could silence even people such as this, he reflected – and said ‘I know how some of you feel, of course. In the end, he was going to subvert his values and go against the whole ethic of the Alumni, perhaps even bringing our plans down around us. But we drink to his memory now for the role he recently played so effectively in such plans.’ He raised his glass again. ‘To Bill.’Everyone in the room raised their own glasses, some more readily than others. ‘To Bill,’ they all said as one.‘And now,’ Hansard said, piercing blue eyes looking over the gathered members of the Alumni, ‘we must prepare for the next phase of our plan.’Cole had the radio tuned into the local news. His recent exploits had been given a full three minutes of airtime, and he had heard himself referred to not only as ‘armed and highly dangerous,’ but as a leading member of a murderous break-off group of Al Qaeda known as the Islamist Jihad Martyrs Brigade. In fact, the news program then spent the next two minutes describing the growing trend in white middle-class converts to radical Islam, and how such extremist groups were utilizing such men for terrorist attacks, as it was easier for such people to avoid surveillance and detection. As Cole eased the stolen Vauxhall hatchback into the vast onslaught of traffic on the westbound M25, he had to laugh at the irony of the situation. Here he was, having spent the last two decades fighting terrorists and their various associates, now accused of being one himself. But he could certainly see the logic of such an accusation. Terrorists were big news, and the fact that there was one on the loose – especially an ‘armed and dangerous’ one – would ensure that all resources were directed his way, with full cooperation from the public. Cole felt sure that there would be a ‘shoot first and ask questions later’ policy in operation. But why? It just didn’t make sense to him. Why would Hansard want him dead now, after all these years? Evidently, it was linked to the assassination of Crozier. Hansard didn’t want him to talk. But why would Hansard have thought he would talk? He hadn’t talked for the year he’d been in P’ang Dakkar prison, and not many men could say that. Hansard knew he could be trusted. So what, then? The answer was there in front of him, taunting him, jeering at him…Brannan, J.T. (2015-11-02). STOP AT NOTHING: America's Deadliest Assassin Becomes the Hunted (Mark Cole Book 1) (Kindle Locations 2029-2065). Grey Arrow. Kindle Edition.Bottom Line:While reading Stop At Nothing I was twice compelled to google for information regarding marma adi and the curse of shiva. Any time a novel does that to me, I consider it a worthy read, for good fiction satisfies readers, but great fiction spurs discriminating readers to research.I realize I may be a neophyte to marma adi, so that information may not be especially pertinent. Get this though – this is a very good work of fiction that should entertain many readers.I wish I could listen to an Audible version though.Comments?

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Mark Cole has potential to become must read action/thriller character By T.W. Barton Mark Cole is a black book assassin. A man used when deniability is a must.As a member of a group so secretive that only the very top government people even know of its existence. Each member is handpicked for their unique skill set.An international incident captured on live broadcast has Cole activated to dispatch the Director of the CIA. While an unusual target, Cole is not one to question his orders, especially when coming from his handler, one of the only men he trusts.Cole is soon the subject of worldwide hunt, set up by a secret group of power brokers, he and his family have been marked for death. A mistake that sets Cole on a worldwide killing spree to save his family and stop those that betrayed him.Packed with action, Mark Cole is a bad, bad man. The body count is high and the action fast and furious. The author doesn't try to use plot tricks to keep you guessing, the plot is straight foreword but he does a great job of leading us through Cole's journey to a conclusion that will leave you with your jaw hanging and a burning thirst for revenge.Mark Cole has huge potential and while the author uses martial art as one of his main skill sets with some technics that stretch even my acceptance of believably there is no denying that Cole could be one the next great action character for those of us that love action/thrillers.There are some grammatical errors that the author should fix but isn't too distracting but does show the lack of quality editing. Still a solid read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Writing Talent Wasted By Dom A woman takes a four mile free swim towing 25 pounds of limpet mines and is described as not even out of breath. The author uses spell check instead of proof reading, with predictable results (e.g., "mercilessly" where the word should be "mercifully"). Superhuman feats are coupled with unbelievable luck. It's too bad, because there is an interesting story here, and the author clearly has some talent. But I ran out of patience about half way through after the umpteenth impossible (or at least ridiculously improbable) escape and had to give up. It appears this author has sold quite a few books, so it's obvious a lot of readers have more tolerance for this sort of thing than I. If you can suspend disbelief to a sufficient degree, you may find this entertaining. But if you insist on applying reasonable critical sensibilities while reading, I suggest you find something else. I hate to write such a critical review, but it seems to me there is a real talent here that is being squandered through carelessness.
